About Me:
Hello! My name is Ryan.
I am a photographic artist driven by a deep curiosity for light, form, and the intricacies of the human condition. My practice is project-based and multifaceted, allowing me to explore a range of visual languages through still-life, portraiture, and landscape photography. Each medium offers a unique way to tell stories—intimate, expansive, and sometimes quietly profound.
I am based in the small town of Pencoed, South Wales, where I live with my wife and our two mischievous dachshunds, Eli and Dotty. From this peaceful corner of the country, I travel across the UK for commissions and creative collaborations. Whether working in the quiet focus of a still-life studio or in the open air of rural landscapes, I approach each project with care, intention, and a love for visual storytelling.
If you're interested in working together or discussing a potential commission, I’d be delighted to hear from you.
Artist Statement:
The four walls of a photograph help photographic artist Ryan Paul Waters bring order to the chaos of life. Focusing instead on form, function and the profound vastness of human emotion. It allows Waters’ to understand the world around him.
Inspired by the countless classical masters who came before him, Waters’ approach to work is detailed, creative and resourceful. With a reliable, old-fashioned work ethic. He continually strives to create work that evokes a quiet, profound connection to both nature and the human experience. Distilling complexity into clarity and finding beauty in the often-overlooked details of everyday life.
As an individual, Waters’ life has had an inevitable ebb and flow. Having struggled with significant periods of anxiety and depression, which saw him withdraw from his life and responsibilities. Waters is now beginning to see the figurative light at the end of the tunnel.
As an emerging artist, Waters is rekindling the ability to see further than the obvious. To once again examine, analyse and critically access the world. His work, reinvigorated, continues to regrow into a deeper meditation on the intersection of emotion and the environment around us.
In a world increasingly dominated by noise and haste, Waters’ actively invites the viewer to pause, breath and appreciate the ordinary through a renewed sense of presence. At its core, his work is a constant endeavour to capture within the four walls of a photograph, a sample of ordered chaos that has a deep under current of meaning and purpose.
